Dear John,

Are you tired of politicians taking your money to give themselves raises?

It turns out politicians don’t need to give themselves raises every year. Nova Scotia Premier Tim Houston is recalling the legislature to stop the pay raises scheduled for his provincial politicians.

“When inflation is at a 40-year high, gas prices are at historic levels and many hard-working Nova Scotians are struggling to make ends meet, it is not the time to increase the pay of MLAs,” said Houston.

If Nova Scotia can stop pay raises, why can’t politicians in Ottawa?

While you and your family struggled through government lockdowns and the pandemic, members of Parliament took three pay raises.

These pandemic pay raises range from an extra $10,600 for a backbench MP to an extra $21,200 for Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

That means all MPs now make at least $189,500. Trudeau’s annual salary is $379,000.

You pay the bills. Do you think your MP should keep giving themselves pay raises?

The Harper government stopped the pay raises between 2010 and 2013 and the federal government could reverse the pandemic pay raises now.

You need to show MPs that you won’t tolerate any more pay raises on your dime. Please sign the online PETITION here: https://www.taxpayer.com/petitions/mps-need-to-cut-their-own-pay

Once you’ve signed the petition, could you forward the petition to your friends and family so more Canadians can help you push back against politicians that use you as their personal ATM?

Thanks for fighting for taxpayers – it’s making a difference!

Sincerely,
  • Franco, Shannon, Todd and the rest of the CTF team.
