More than 200 million people in the U.S. could be drinking PFAS-contaminated water right now!

Dangerous per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances called PFAS are found in everything from food wrappers to non-stick pans. These chemicals leach into our food, water, ecosystems and even our bodies!

Exposure to PFAS is associated with a higher risk of serious health issues, including birth defects, thyroid disease, weakened immunity, liver malfunction and cancer. There are thousands of forms of PFAS, but the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has failed to address the harm caused by all of these “forever chemicals.” It’s time for urgent action from Congress.

The EPA uses only a narrow definition of PFAS that excludes thousands of these toxic chemicals from testing and future regulation. This includes many types of PFAS found in pesticides. This narrow definition will subject us to continuous exposure to PFAS with no plan to protect communities from the many associated risks.

Communities across the country want real solutions to address the danger of ALL toxic PFAS chemicals, not piecemeal steps that lead to continued harms.

Important legislation called the PFAS Definition Improvement Act (H.R. 5987) would ensure that the EPA uses a broad, widely accepted definition of PFAS in its regulations. It’s time for Congress to step up and hold the EPA accountable to protecting communities from PFAS.
