Hi John, it's Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
I’m writing to you today because in just 8 days, Rep. Cori Bush will have to face four, corporate-backed challengers in a competitive primary election.
Since meeting Cori in 2017 when we were both first-time House candidates running to take on establishment Democrats to today, Cori has always inspired me. And I couldn't be more proud to work alongside her in Congress.
Cori is exactly the leader we need to represent St. Louis in Congress. As a nurse, pastor, and single mom of two kids, she has always been involved in her community. After the murder of Michael Brown Jr. in 2014 just minutes from where she lived, Cori stepped up to serve her neighbors as a triage nurse. When attacks on abortion rights started escalating, Cori began sharing her own abortion story and has been leading the fight to pass urgent reproductive health protections in our communities.
Together, we introduced the Green New Deal for Cities to federally fund a Green New Deal in every community and stayed outside the Capitol for five days demanding an extended eviction moratorium to keep people housed. Districts like Cori's and mine disproportionately feel the impacts of environmental racism, economic inequity, and police violence — that’s why Cori and I understand what's at stake in our work.
Keeping Cori with me in Congress is absolutely critical to ensuring the future of our progressive movement. Together, we will continue holding the line to pass Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, abortion access protections, and the anti-racist policies our communities need.
Last cycle, corporate GOP mega-donors and less-than-progressive primary challengers spent millions attacking me. Fox News would dedicate entire segments spewing racist, false, negative attacks at our campaign.
And now these same kinds of attacks are being launched on Cori’s campaign.
Her corporate-backed opponent has already invested $100,000 in TV attack ads and outside groups are pouring in millions to make our progressive movement look weak.
From personal experience, I know how important it is that we all show up as a movement to support Cori through this election. We must send a loud message that we will not back down in our mission to dismantle systemic racism in America and pass transformative policies that lift ALL of our families up.
If you can, please donate any amount today to keep my sister, Cori Bush, in Congress.
Pa’lante,
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez
