*Energy-efficiency training available to operators of multifamily buildings*

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) is helping to spread the word about registration for a new Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance [ [link removed] ] (MEEA) course that teaches building operators about energy-efficient operations in multifamily buildings. The nonprofit MEEA, of which EGLE is a member, promotes energy efficiency through education and research.

The new course is part of MEEA?s Building Operator Certification [ [link removed] ] (BOC) Program. The BOC Level I Multifamily: Building Systems Maintenance [ [link removed] ] course covers heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); common opportunities for operational improvements; and building scoping for energy efficiency.

It?s offered online from 1-4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, Aug. 9-Nov. 9, 2022. Tuition is $150, and a limited number of free scholarships are available for affordable housing providers, with restrictions. The course is offered free of charge to Consumers Energy customers on Wednesdays and Thursdays, Aug.?31-Nov.?17, 2022, at Franklin Energy, 3965 Okemos Road, Okemos. Find details and registration information at the BOC website [ [link removed] ].

BOC is a nationally recognized training and certification program focusing on energy-efficient building operations and preventive maintenance. The program?s website says facilities with BOC graduates are proven to save energy, have lower energy bills, and offer improved comfort for occupants*.*

BOC Level I Multifamily training is recommended for operating engineers, HVAC technicians, heads of maintenance, and other building personnel with experience working in multifamily buildings with 20 or more units. Total time commitment is about 74 hours, including class time and project work outside of class. Graduates of this training series will earn a?Training Certificate of Completion.

MEEA has successfully administered more than 300 BOC training series, certifying over 5,000 building operators in the region since 2003.
