*Governor Whitmer Continues to Fix the Damn Roads with Six Projects Starting This Week* 

"In 2022, Gov. Whitmer is making the largest investment in state roads and bridges in Michigan’s history" 

 

*LANSING, Mich. -- *Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced six road projects slated to begin this week in Clare, Eaton, Gogebic, Jackson, Lenawee, Ontonagon, Sanilac counties. The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) projects include M-115 resurfacing in Clare County, M-28 resurfacing in Gogebic and Ontonagon Counties, Cochran Road bridge maintenance in Eaton County, Sandstone Road bridge maintenance over I-94 in Jackson County, M-50 resurfacing in Lenawee County, and M-46 roadway improvements in Sanilac County. Based on economic modeling, these investments will support 4,789 jobs.  

 

“Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to save drivers time and money. These investments across Clare, Eaton, Gogebic, Jackson, Lenawee, Ontonagon, Sanilac counties will support 4,789 jobs, and help Michiganders get to work, run errands, and explore our beautiful state safely,” said *Governor Whitmer*. “Since I took office through the end of 2022, we will have invested 70% more in our roads than the previous four years to fix over 16,000 lane miles of road and 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. Both my Rebuilding Michigan Plan and the bipartisan Building Michigan Together Plan are helping us build safe, reliable infrastructure that makes a difference for families and small business across the state. I hope you all like orange because you’ll be seeing a lot of cones and barrels throughout summer. I’m proud of what we have accomplished, so let’s roll up our sleeves and keep getting things done." 

 

*M-115 Resurfacing Project in Clare County * 

MDOT will invest $819,000 to resurface 1.2 miles of M-115 from Pioneer Parkway to Sunset Avenue [ [link removed] ], in the city of Clare. Work includes sidewalk and ADA improvements compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).* *

Sidewalk improvements will be completed with lane closures and traffic shifts. Joint repairs and resurfacing will be completed during overnight hours, with a detour via Maple Street and 4th Street. 



*Safety benefit:* 



This work will improve the driving surface of M-115 and the sidewalk conditions for pedestrians. 



 

*M-28 Resurfacing Project in Ontonagon and Gogebic Counties* 

MDOT is investing about $3 million to resurface 12.7 miles of M-28 from Old M-28 to the M-64 north junction [ [link removed] ] in Ontonagon and Gogebic counties. Work includes asphalt cold milling and resurfacing, shoulder widening, aggregate shoulders, concrete curb and gutter, and pavement markings. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 38 jobs.

*M-50 Resurfacing Project in Lenawee County* 

MDOT is investing approximately $1 million for resurfacing and improvements of M-50 from Sunset Drive to the River Raisin bridge [ [link removed] ]. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 13 jobs.

*M-46 Roadway Improvements in Sanilac County* 

MDOT will invest $1.1 million in resurfacing efforts along 7.8 miles of M-46 in Sanilac County [ [link removed] ]. Work includes joint repairs, chip sealing, micro-resurfacing, shoulder improvements, and pavement markings from east of M-53 to west of M-19. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 14 jobs.

*Cochran Road Bridge Maintenance in Eaton County ** * 

MDOT will begin preventive maintenance on the Cochran Road bridge over I-69 [ [link removed] ] as part of the ongoing $210 million investment to rebuild I-69 [ [link removed] ] between Island Highway in Charlotte, Eaton County, and I-94 in Marshall, Calhoun County. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support nearly 2,667 jobs. 

 

Funding for this project is made possible by Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program [ [link removed] ] to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.

 Sandstone Road Bridge Maintenance Over I-94 in Jackson County

 

*Sandstone Road Bridge Maintenance Over I-94 in Jackson County * 

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will close the Sandstone Road bridge over I-94 [ [link removed] ] in Jackson for maintenance.  This work is part of the I-94 Jackson project rebuilding nearly 13 miles of I-94 in Jackson, Albion, and Parma in Jackson County. Based on economic modeling, this investment is expected to support 2,057 jobs. 

 

Funding for this project is made possible by Governor Gretchen Whitmer's Rebuilding Michigan program [ [link removed] ] to rebuild the state highways and bridges that are critical to the state's economy and carry the most traffic. The investment strategy is aimed at fixes that result in longer useful lives and improves the condition of the state's infrastructure.

*Building Michigan Together Plan* 

Since Governor Whitmer took office through the end of 2022, Michigan will have repaired, rebuilt, or replaced 16,000 lane miles of road and over 1,200 bridges, supporting nearly 89,000 jobs. In April, Governor Whitmer signed the Building Michigan Together Plan [ [link removed] ], a bipartisan plan to invest nearly $5 billion in Michigan’s infrastructure, grow the economy, create jobs, and benefit families in every region of the state. The Building Michigan Together Plan calls for critical investments of $645 million in Michigan’s infrastructure, including $317 million for road and bridge programs, benefitting both state and local projects.
