Statement on the Endorsement of Laurie Davies for the 73rd Assembly District
ORANGE COUNTY, CA – Hon. Fred M. Whitaker, Chairman of the Republican Party of Orange County, released the following statement on the endorsement of Laurie Davies for the 73rd Assembly District:
"This past Saturday the Republican Party of Orange County Central Committee voted to endorse Laguna Niguel Mayor Laurie Davies for the 73rd Assembly District.
Mayor Laurie Davies represents our best opportunity to hold the 73rd Assembly District seat against the Democrat nominee in November. Laurie is a successful businesswoman and skilled policymaker. Mayor Davies is a proven candidate with electoral success in AD 73, and an effective elected official. Her impressive fundraising and ground operation is needed to win this seat. Once elected, South Orange County will be proud again of its Assemblymember.
The Republican Party of Orange County Central Committee overwhelmingly voted to take the extraordinary step of asking Assemblymember Bill Brough not to run for reelection due to allegations of sexual and financial misconduct now under investigation. Assemblymember Brough has lost both the confidence of the Republican Party and the trust of the voters.
Our resolution asking Assemblymember Brough to step aside and the subsequent endorsement of Laurie Davies represents our party's commitment to our core values. Unlike the Democrat Party we do not cover up the unethical behavior of our elected officials - we call them out and if necessary, we defeat them.
We are committed to holding the 73rd Assembly District seat. It is critical that the Republicans unite behind Mayor Laurie Davies in both the primary and general election to keep this seat in Republican hands."
