Dear Georgian,

Due to the irresponsible policies of the Biden administration and House and Senate Democrats, Americans still suffer from record inflation and gas prices that are currently 85% higher than they were when President Biden took office. However, last week, Democrats focused on talking-point legislation and pushing their far-left agenda.

Americans know that the only person responsible for the gas crisis is Joe Biden. He campaigned on ending the oil and gas industry in America, and his actions from day one of his Presidency have backed that up. To make matters worse, his decision to ship oil from our Strategic Petroleum Reserve to nations overseas puts our country at risk in the event of a disaster. My Republican colleagues and I will continue to prioritize actions addressing the real issues affecting Americans and encourage the White House and House Majority to do the same.

As 2023 approaches, the House Agriculture Committee is working toward the next Farm Bill. This legislation shapes every aspect of ag policy and it’s critical that voices in the Eighth District are heard. We need to know what’s working and what can be improved. If you are a farmer, take a moment to provide feedback here.

As always, my staff and I are here to help. If you need assistance with a federal agency or have comments or concerns to share with me, please do not hesitate to call my Warner Robins, Tifton, or Washington, D.C. offices. To receive frequent updates, I encourage you to visit my website, like my Facebook page, follow me on YouTube, and follow me on Twitter.

Sincerely,

Joining Leader McCarthy for a Roundtable with Taiwan's Ambassador

When we talk about Communist China, we have to recognize that communism in and of itself is a threat to the free world. If China makes a move, it won't just be the United States to come to Taiwan’s aid. Australia, Japan, and India are committed. We need to make sure that Communist China understands there is going to be a whole lot more pain than benefit for moving against Taiwan.

I joined Leader McCarthy and Taiwanese Ambassador Hsiao at a China Task Force roundtable to discuss how to support Taiwan while they face threats from the CCP.

Congratulating the Art Competition People's Choice Award Winner in D.C.

Last week, Kloey Harrison, who won this year's People's Choice Award as a part of the annual 8th District Congressional Art Competition, visited my Washington, D.C. office.

Over 3,800 votes were cast on my Facebook page and Kloey's piece "Duality" was the overwhelming winner. Kloey recently graduated from Worth County High School and traveled to D.C. with her family to see her artwork hanging in my office. Congratulations to Kloey on this honor!

Holding a House Ag Committee Farm Bill Hearing on Crop Insurance

On Thursday, the House Agriculture Subcommittee on General Farm Commodities and Risk Management held a hearing with stakeholders to hear their perspectives on crop insurance ahead of the Farm Bill.

Approximately 90% of our country’s food supply comes from just 12% of our farmers. At a time of instability and economic turmoil throughout the world, it’s crucial that this committee does everything it can to assist farmers and ensure they’re around to put food on our tables.

I believe that in the next farm bill, one of the best investments this committee can make is further enhancements to crop insurance that provide producers with affordable options to increase coverage.

Farm Progress | Congress Asked to Do No Harm to Crop Insurance

"Subcommittee ranking member Rep. Austin Scott, R-Ga., says since 2017, Congress has provided additional assistance to producers in the form of ad hoc disaster aid, but crop insurance remains a stable safety net compared to disaster assistance.

'The inefficiencies in delivery, the delay in funding and payments, and the uncertainty of if or when Congress may act underscores the benefits and importance of having a well-functioning insurance program,' Scott says. 'Crop insurance delivers timely assistance in the wake of a disaster and provides some level of protection to farmers and their lenders.'"
