Arkansas’ teachers and their families should always come first. Because when we invest in teachers, we’re investing in our students.

Teachers give our children purpose, set them up for success, and inspire them to do well and succeed in life. But, unfortunately, Arkansas is faced with a teacher shortage. This comes as no surprise to Chris, because when he talks to teachers all over our state, he hears the same thing over and over again : they are understaffed, under-resourced, and underpaid.

Chris is committed to making sure Arkansas students and teachers come first. He recently announced our Teacher Pay Plus Plan [[link removed]] , and if elected governor, he’s determined to deliver for all teachers on day one. There’s no reason why increasing teacher pay should be political. But we’ve yet to hear from Chris' opponent on this critical issue in our state. For Chris, every Arkansas student, regardless of where they live, deserves a quality education. And that starts with paying competitive salaries to support and attract highly qualified teachers — which is something both parents and students are asking for.

The reality is this: Arkansas teachers make less than any other state in the region. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Arkansans want us to meet this moment and rise to this occasion. We have a record state surplus of $1.6 billion. It’s common sense that we invest in our children’s education and our teachers.
