Survival Sunday: July 24, 2022

Happy weekend, friends!

Survival Sunday is a round-up of the week's news and resources for

A PERSONAL NOTE

 

I hope you're all having a great weekend. The weather here has been hot
and sunny - my favorite kind of summer. My patio garden is growing like
a jungle and I'm getting up early to work so I can spend some time
outside having a little siesta during the early afternoon. You don't
have to ask me twice to play outdoors and get a little vitamin D.

I've also been getting some reading done just for fun. It's been ages
since I had the extra time to read and I forgot how much I love it. I
picked up a few books by Alice Hoffman, one of my favorite authors, at a
yard sale. I found some good playlists with classical music and a rain
ambiance and it makes everything feel so cozy. I've been in nesting
mode, cleaning and organizing my apartment and checking my preps.

As things in our economy continue to devolve, I'm trying to get in touch
with the little things that make me feel good, as opposed to constantly
seeking bigger and better excitement. Sure, I still love to travel, but
I also love to eat food and have shelter, so exotic vacations to
far-flung places will have to wait for a while.

Getting through these difficult times is in large part about our
attitudes. If we can find joy in the every day and feel gratitude for
little things like butterflies and fresh green beans, we'll make it to
the other side of this with our sense of joy intact. Ours is not the
first economic crisis and it won't be the last. Our ancestors have
survived this and we can too.
