Dear John
It was a busy week in the House. The democratic leadership even held Members an extra day to continue pushing their far-left agenda rather than focusing on the issues affecting your daily lives. I wanted to update you on how I spent the week fighting for our conservative values in Washington.
On Tuesday, I joined the House Republican Leadership’s news conference to call out the Democrats for their desire to strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights with a ban on "assault weapons" and removing limitations on the civil liability of gun manufacturers. The former bill is unconstitutional, and the latter aims to punish gun manufacturers for the actions of others.
We heard these bills Wednesday in the Judiciary Committee. My Republican colleagues and I strenuously argued against both bills. I offered amendments to protect Pittman-Robertson funding and exempt stabilizing braces from their ban. The Democrats were able to defeat those amendments and pass the bills out of committee. It’s another reason why Republicans need to retake the House, so we can advance bills that protect your rights, not infringe upon them.
In western Minnesota, agriculture is an integral part of our economy and community. I discussed the crop insurance program with local wheat growers about how it has been helpful in recovering from extreme weather. There are concerns that new burdensome climate regulations imposed by liberals in Congress would constrict the ability of our farmers to do their jobs. Our farmers do not need Washington bureaucrats breathing down their necks. That’s why I will fight any and all unnecessary requirements imposed on farm programs.
When not in Washington, I enjoy connecting with people across the district. Last week, I had the pleasure of attending the Detroit Lakes Water Carnival with the Becker County GOP and Attorney General candidate Jim Schultz. I want to give a special thank you to all the volunteers who marched with us and joined us for a visit to the American Legion.
