Step 1: Be a corporation. Step 2: Have a lot of money.

Folks  In his 22 years in office, my opponent has taken more than $5.7 MILLION in corporate PAC money.

In this cycle alone, 60% of Rick’s funding comes from PACs, with nearly half a million dollars (70% of his PAC funding) from corporate PACs. And most of his donors represent industries he oversees in his congressional duties.

My fellow constituents and I have confronted Rick Larsen numerous times over the years about this obvious conflict of interest. But he insists this money does not affect his policy.

You might be wondering: Is that true?

(Spoiler alert: It isn’t.)

The truth is, the line between payouts and policy is often very direct. Here’s Rick Larsen in 2019 tweeting in support of oil pipeline expansions in our district just hours after accepting a contribution from the corporate PAC affiliated with the Keystone XL Pipeline:

A graphic with a composite of a portion of an FEC report and a tweet by Rick Larsen. At the top is a screenshot from one of Rick Larsen’s FEC reports in 2019, which shows a contribution of $1,500 received on November 19, 2019 from the PAC for TransCanada USA Services Inc. (the parent company affiliated with the Keystone XL Pipeline project). At the bottom is a screenshot of a tweet sent by Rick Larsen at 7:16am local time on November 20, 2019, which says: “Pipelines play a critical role in the nation’s infrastructure & the daily lives of people in the PNW. Since taking office, I have prioritized efforts to improve pipeline safety, increase pipeline operator accountability and mitigate the effects of climate change.” At the top of the graphic is a caption that reads: “How corporate cash corrupts Congress.”

Everything about Rick’s tweet is a farce. From the absurd claim that support for oil and gas pipelines is a responsible energy policy that helps “mitigate the effects of climate change,” to the very idea that his policy position isn’t connected to the money he just pocketed the day before.

I’ve never taken a dime from corporate PACs or lobbyists – and this is why. I refuse to let our policies be dictated by billionaires or corporations.

I’m running for Congress to fight for working families and to pass the Green New Deal.

You can’t claim to take the climate emergency seriously when you’re puffing up pipelines or walking around with thousand-dollar checks from oil companies in your pocket.

In my 30 years as an activist and an organizer, I have fought tirelessly to stop the climate crisis. But we can’t win that fight as long as Congress is in the pocket of Big Oil. That’s why I don’t take their money. Help me win this seat so I can take our fight to Washington D.C.
