Hi John,

On Thursday, Joe joined his colleagues in the House to pass the Right to Contraception Act, a bill that would codify the right to contraceptives. Out of all the members of the House GOP, only 8 voted for this bill. 195 members voted NO to a right that has existed since 1967. This is unacceptable.

The right to contraception has a special history in our state – it was Griswold v. Connecticut that first established married couples’ right to make their own family decisions and to use contraception without government interference. But after Justice Thomas explicitly called on the Supreme Court to reconsider its positions protecting the use of contraceptives and other fundamental rights in last month’s Dobbs decision, there is no time to waste.

This vote builds on other steps Joe has taken to defend reproductive freedom here in eastern Connecticut and for all Americans. In 1990, as a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives, Joe voted to codify abortion rights into law, giving CT some of the strongest reproductive rights in the country. And despite Kevin McCarthy and the radical right’s best efforts to block progress, Joe and the House Democrats worked together to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act earlier this year, which would protect the right to an abortion across the country.

These votes highlight how important it is to have Joe as eastern Connecticut's advocate in Congress.

John, Joe is in a tough race, and it’s going to take all of us to re-elect him in November. Can you chip in any amount today to show Washington Republicans that Joe is here to stay?
