I've written to you a lot the past few months on my bill to reinstate the national ban on assault weapons. Today, I'm happy to report that this life-saving bill has been passed by the House Judiciary Committee.

I authored this bill because it is desperately needed. Since Congress allowed the ban to expire in 2004, mass shootings nationwide have drastically increased.

We must reinstate the Assault Weapons Ban. Weapons of war have no place on our streets.

We are in the midst of a gun violence epidemic — an epidemic of carnage and unspeakable loss that has left far too many families broken. And we know something that will reduce this bloodshed.
