The shocking heat wave and deadly wildfires in Europe and around the U.S. are further proof that the climate crisis is here. So, protecting our oceans and public lands from climate-busting oil drilling is one of our best chances for meaningful progress on clean energy right now.
And progress is especially critical given recent setbacks in Washington — including news that Senator Joe Manchin and Senate Republicans have blocked congressional action on climate change, and the Supreme Court's deeply damaging ruling hampering the EPA's ability to limit climate-busting carbon emissions from power plants.
The fight isn't over, but the stakes are too high: We must work harder and demand more of this administration to treat climate like the priority that it is.
Please take one minute to sign our petition urging the Biden administration to stand strong against fossil fuel lobbyists and stop any new drilling leases. Our children and our grandchildren's futures depend on it.
Thank you for fighting alongside us.
Sincerely,
Manish Bapna
President, NRDC
P.S. Please read Robert Redford's email to you below. Then, sign the petition.
Please Join Me and Tell President Biden: End our Dangerous Dependence on Fossil Fuels
Sign the petition urging him to halt all future oil and gas leasing on our public lands and oceans.
Let's be clear: If we are to stave off the most catastrophic impacts of climate change, we must dramatically speed up the transition to clean energy sources that are not only good for our planet but good for the health and pocketbook of every American.
At the same time, we must get our government out of the fossil fuel business by ending the promotion of new climate-busting oil and gas development. In short, we must put people before polluters.
Meanwhile, the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine has shown us all that petro-states like Russia are using fossil fuels as a weapon to hold the world hostage, and that it's time to take that weapon away.
Shackling us to a future of more fossil fuel addiction will help doom all of us to the devastating consequences of climate change.
President Biden must not allow any more oil and gas leasing on our public lands and ocean waters. That's crucial if we are going to turbocharge the transition to a clean energy economy. NRDC is the leading champion for job-creating innovations in transportation, green building, renewables, and energy-efficiency. The energy revolution is already happening, and we must keep that momentum going.
That's why I'm signing onto NRDC's petition. NRDC's words — and its actions — carry weight. And together, with your help, we can release the stranglehold that fossil fuels have on our future, put an end to Big Oil's profit hoarding at the expense of our climate, and urge the Biden administration to end our dangerous dependence on fossil fuels.
Thank you for being a part of this fight. With you by our side, the fate of our public lands and our climate is in good hands.
Sincerely,
Robert Redford
