Earlier in the week on Tuesday, my colleagues and I in the House voted to pass H.R.8404, the Respect for Marriage Act, which enshrines marriage equality into federal law. At a time when many Americans have legitimate concerns about legal and legislative attacks against their freedom to live their lives freely and authentically, this was an important step for Congress to take. I continue to encourage my colleagues in the Senate to take swift action in approving this legislation so President Biden can sign it into law.
On Thursday, I voted in favor of H.R.8373, the Right to Contraception Act, which upholds Americans’ basic right to access contraception. I am committed to preserving the rights and dignities of every person, everywhere, because the right for a woman to decide when she gets pregnant should not be up for debate.
