Weekly Wrap Up
Friend,

We promise those who serve our country that we will take care of them when they return home.

Last week, I voted for the bipartisan PACT Act, legislation to ensure that veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals, such as burn pits and Agent Orange, during their service can access necessary medical treatment. I will always put politics aside to ensure that our veterans are taken care of and receive the full scope of care and benefits they have earned.

Additionally, our veterans deserve recognition for their service to our country. On Saturday, I was humbled to present SGT Thomas Klug, a Vietnam veteran of Coggon, Iowa, with his service medals. I am so glad that my team could help SGT Klug obtain his medals so that he could pass them down to his grandchildren. Thank you to SGT Klug for his service and God bless all of our veterans!

Read on for more updates on my work for Iowans this week.

NEW: My Legislation to Provide Access to Birth Control Over the Counter for Adult Women
I have long advocated for better access to birth control, and this week, I introduced legislation that will make regular, FDA-approved birth control pills available over the counter for adult women. Millions of American women safely use oral contraceptives and enabling women to access birth control pills at their local pharmacy is commonsense policy. This is particularly important for women in rural areas who may have to drive over an hour to see their doctor.

I will continue working in a bipartisan manner to advocate for Iowa women and support families in Congress.
Virtual Town Hall Recaps
This week, I held a telephone town hall and a Facebook Live town hall to connect with Iowans. I've held an in-person town hall in all twenty counties in our district, and virtual town halls allow for me to continue to hear from you while working in Washington.

I want to thank everyone who took the time to join my virtual town halls this week. I took questions on how we can combat rising prices, restore energy independence, and work across the aisle to improve Iowans' daily lives. Iowans are clearly suffering under the Democratic control in Washington and deserve commonsense leadership. I’ll continue to be accessible, fight the chaos and dysfunction in DC, and deliver results for our communities.

I also asked those on my telephone town hall what issue they want me to prioritize in Congress. Here are the results:

What issue do you want me to prioritize in Congress?
Inflation and Rising Costs: 30%
Border Security: 27%
Energy Policy: 20%
Education Policy: 18%
National Security and Foreign Affairs: 5%

Iowans' feedback will always drive my work in Washington. Thank you to everyone who joined the discussions this week!
Hearing from Iowans
I enjoyed sitting down with members of the Iowa Turkey Federation this week. The Biden Administration’s policies are harming the entire agriculture community – from increased input costs to more regulations, our producers need the government off their backs. I’ll continue working to rein in overspending and push back against regulations that do more harm than good.
Meeting with IA-01 Small Business Owners
It was great to catch up with some small business owners from the district in DC this week! Inspire(d) Media, Member Marketplace, and Almost Famous Popcorn were all here. We talked about the issues facing the small business community right now, including inflation and the workforce shortage, as well as how they're overcoming those challenges. I'll continue to hear from our small business owners and propose solutions to keep Iowa’s Main Streets vibrant.
ICYMI: On the Air with Doug Wagner
I joined Doug Wagner to discuss the PACT Act, legislation to ensure veterans who were exposed to toxic chemicals during their service can receive medical treatment, as well the Biden Administration’s harmful energy policies.
