John,
Derek recognizes that we cannot go another day without common-sense gun legislation.
Federal and state lawmakers have failed to step up and protect our city — this is why Derek introduced a bill in the City Council that would require the mandatory reporting of body armor sales here in Philadelphia.

Original Message from Councilmember Green:
In 2022 alone...
302 people have been killed by gun violence in Philadelphia.
There have been more than 1,000 shootings in our city.
Guns are the #1 killer of children both in our city and nationwide. |
We are experiencing a gun violence epidemic, and we cannot go another moment without lifesaving gun legislation to protect our children and make our communities safer.
I have offered legislation that would require the reporting of body armor sales by both the vendor and the buyer. This bill will close a loophole in unregistered weapons sales by ensuring that body armor purchases are reported and prevent these senseless tragedies from ever occurring.
My efforts to make our city safe are only made possible by the grassroots support of people like you. My team and I are looking to bring in 77 more individual contributions by the end of the month — will you chip in just $5 today to support my work on the City Council?

We have seen an increase in the use of body armor in mass shootings — when an individual is in possession of a high-capacity weapon, they are also likely to own body armor. This is why it is so important that these sales are registered.
Law enforcement officers support my initiative to mandate reporting of body armor sales because, like you and me, they are committed to our safety and don’t want to see another life lost to gun violence.
I hope to continue working with you in delivering the anti-violence initiatives that our city has long awaited. Please, rush a donation today so I can continue delivering the change that you deserve.
Thank you for your continued support.
