Republicans block taking up Senate bill to guarantee freedom to travel across states for abortions
John,
Last month, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court destroyed the fifty-year precedent of a constitutional right to control one’s own reproductive health by overturning Roe v. Wade . Now, we must do everything we can to protect the access to reproductive healthcare that is left in our country, including the right to interstate travel to obtain an abortion.
Earlier this month, Chris and his colleagues introduced the Freedom to Travel for Health Care Act of 2022, which makes it clear that it is illegal for anti-choice states to block travel for abortion services. This bill will also empower the Attorney General and impacted individuals to bring suits against those who try to restrict a woman’s right to cross state lines to receive legal reproductive care.
Now, Senate Republicans are blocking this legislation and attacking the right to interstate travel. Not only is this blatantly unconstitutional, but it holds people captive at a time when they are already facing attacks on their bodily autonomy.
Chris believes that we must protect the freedom to travel across state lines for abortions, both for those seeking the procedure and those who might be prosecuted for providing it to out-of-state patients.
If you agree with Chris, add your name to this petition to tell Congress to protect the right to interstate travel to seek an abortion >> [link removed]
