Earlier this week, the committee I chair held a hearing to highlight the devastating impacts of the overturning of Roe v. Wade on the American people and on the nation's health.

We heard from several experts and explored the vast ways in which people all across our country are suffering. The court's decision in Dobbs, reversing nearly 50 years of Roe and other affirming legal precedents, has brought complications for patients, doctors, and all communities in our nation.

Confusion and fear are the common themes in the weeks since the court effectively stripped away the freedom of 36 million women to control their own bodies and handed that power instead to politicians with extreme agendas.

The hearing was both illuminating and sorrowful. But more than anything, it highlighted the need for strong legislation to protect access to reproductive healthcare.

I promise I will never give up our fight to ensure everybody in this country has the power and the freedom to make their own decisions– including decisions about abortion and contraception. My colleagues in the House and I have already passed the Women's Health Protection Act, a bill that would enshrine protections on abortion and Americans' right to full access to healthcare.
