Over the last several weeks, the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol has helped us learn details about the frightful events on that terrifying day. And last night, we learned more. Although it is challenging to watch videos of the attack, it is imperative we do so because facts matter. As Committee Vice-Chair Liz Cheney said last night, "We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation."

The bipartisan Committee has made clear through testimony and evidence that Donald Trump actively encouraged the spread of election misinformation even though he knew that he lost the election.

And last night, they showed us that Donald Trump instigated the attack and then sat in the White House dining room watching it play out on Fox News and did absolutely nothing to stop it for more than three hours . The Capitol was under attack, Capitol Police officers were beaten, Representatives and Senators sought shelter to save their lives, people called loved ones to say goodbye, Vice President Pence was hunted by angry mobs – and Donald Trump sat and watched the show for more than three hours.

Unconscionable.

I was there on January 6th, and I will never forget the day or the fear I felt. While watching the hearing last night, I relived the feelings – I was terrified, and I was furious, especially when Donald Trump finally asked the insurrectionists to leave by telling him they were "special" and he "loved them."

I am grateful for the thorough work of the bipartisan Committee. The members serving on it are dedicated to learning and revealing the truth to the American people.
