Right to Life Petition Update:
One Week to Go!
Have you signed the dismemberment abortion ban petition? With only one week left before the requested deadline, time is running out.
Our friends at Right to Life of Michigan estimate that they will reach the deadline for the Dismemberment Ban petition with approximately 363,000 of 340,000 need signatures. Petitions should be postmarked no later than December 13th to allow adequate time to be counted.
We ask that everyone continue to circulate petitions so that Right to Life can reach their goal of 400,000 to provide a cushion in case some signatures are not valid. Please join us as we reach the final push to ban the horrific practice of dismemberment abortion in Michigan.

Gambling Expansion in Michigan
Legislation removing restrictions on casinos in Michigan passed the house earlier this week, which some fear would open doors to allowing gambling special interest groups to have more influence in elections. The bill would loosen restrictions on background checks for those seeking to obtain casino licenses, and allow individuals with criminal convictions to obtain casino licenses after a waiting period. Part of a larger package of bills passed earlier this year, HB 4307 has seen support from the three major casinos in Detroit, MGM Grand, MotorCity, and Greektown.
This package of legislation moves to legalize betting on professional sports, online gambling, and loosen controls on the gambling industry.
CTV has historically opposed efforts to expand gambling interests in our state, due to the potential for harm that exists in allowing loosely restricted gambling to occur. We believe that tax revenue should not be the sole driving force behind the creation of legislation, but should be accompanied by a consideration of the moral and financial impact these laws could have on the people of Michigan.

US Supreme Court Refrains from Ruling
in Kentucky Ultrasound Law
Since 2017, abortion service providers must perform an ultrasound on the mother seeking an abortion, while showing and describing what is occurring. The purpose according to supporters is to make the fetal heartbeat audible to the mother before making her decision. This decision comes as a big win to pro-life advocates, who will not have the support of the governor’s office in Kentucky following the 2019 elections.
The ACLU appealed the legislation to the Supreme Court, claiming that it goes against medical ethics. However, the Court chose not to hear the case, without presenting a reason why. Kentucky’s pro-life measures will remain in place, but the court is slated to hear other abortion laws related to doctors rights in 2020.
