Last night’s January 6 hearing cemented just how dangerous Donald Trump and some of Alexandria’s current GOP colleagues are.
Donald Trump refused to take any action to call off the violence despite numerous pleas from his staff and family.1 Meanwhile, Republican Sen. Josh Hawley – who sold t-shirts of himself fist-pumping the violent mob as recently as *this year* – was seen running from the rioters in never-before-seen footage.2
Last month, surveillance footage showed Representative Barry Loudermilk giving a tour of the Capitol the day before the attack to a group that included an insurrectionist.3
You’d think these actions would disqualify them from running for re-election, let alone winning, but the reality is that the GOP has a real chance to take back power in Congress.
That’s why Alexandria is fighting for accountability for the representatives who were complicit in the January 6 attack; who put her and all of her colleagues in danger of losing their lives.
When Alexandria shared her experience of January 6, the conservative disinformation machine didn’t waste a minute accusing her of ‘overreacting’ or ‘exaggerating’.
We believed Alexandria then, and the facts and evidence shown since she shared her story just confirm what we already knew: That this was not a small attack carried out by a small group of people. The threat was real and intentional.
Republicans are trying to walk away from this. They’re trying to pretend it didn’t happen. It’s our responsibility to remember and hold them accountable in November.
