Last week Congress passed my amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act... July 22, 2022 Dear John, This week, I introduced legislation to ban the Chinese Communist Party from spying on American navigational systems and potentially further disrupting our critical supply chains. I also introduced a bipartisan bill to help independent workers find more opportunities while ensuring valuable protections and benefits. I'll be hosting a tele-townhall next week to answer your questions and share more about the work I’ve been doing in Washington, D.C. Additionally, my team is hosting office hours in the coming weeks, we are hiring for several positions, and we are still accepting nominations for the Seniors of Distinction Award. Make sure to follow my Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to get these updates in real-time! Protecting Our Supply Chains from the CCP Last week, Congress passed my amendment to this year’s National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to ban our military from using LOGINK, a Chinese-based shipping logistics and data platform that collects information from users at ports around the world. This week, I introduced new legislation to ban LOGINK from being used by the entire federal government to prevent the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) from meddling in the U.S. supply chain. The CCP routinely violates international norms related to human rights, intellectual property, and environmental standards. Our supply chains are already stretched thin, and we can’t risk the CCP stealing logistics information that could have massive implications on private companies and our national security. I am committed to passing this legislation to prevent the CCP from disrupting our military’s navigational integrity and counter their increasing hostility towards free and sovereign nations around the world. Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and Henry Cuellar (D-TX) to introduce the Worker Flexibility and Choice Act (WFCA), which will establish a new work arrangement that combines the flexibility of independent work with certain workplace protections and the opportunity for additional benefits. As workers and businesses across the country continue to experience labor shortages and the highest inflation in 40 years, finding ways to promote employment flexibility should be a top priority for Congress. I’m proud to join Reps. Cuellar and Stefanik to offer this bipartisan solution to promote stable, flexible employment and help empower American workers and businesses to thrive.
