Earlier this week, Gov. Greg Abbott released a wholly disappointing, but frankly, unsurprising comment about the devastating shooting in Uvalde.
He conceded that the recent reports showing horrible inaction from law enforcement “raise serious concerns about the response that day.”
But the reality is, as Governor, he has the power to call a special session for the Texas legislature and instruct the legislature to take up real, meaningful action to address gun safety, mental health, policing, and more.
But so far, he’s only continued to offer empty platitudes at best, and dangerous, insensitive remarks at work.
Y'all, the tragedy in Uvalde was compounded by serious systemic failures, and those failures must be investigated as soon as possible.
