Dear John,
This week, Central America took center stage, once again. The U.S. Department of State released an update to the Engel List which includes sanctions for additional officials from El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua who have engaged in acts of corruption, obstructed corruption investigations, or threatened democratic processes. This means they won't be allowed to travel to the U.S. Check out our analysis for more on what this means for the fight against corruption in Central America and the message that the U.S. is sending to the rest of the region.
Also this week, more developments at the U.S.-Mexico border, an event briefing about the presentation of Colombia's Truth Commission final report in Washington D.C., and a fascinating podcast about LGTBIQ+ rights in Venezuela.

🎤In this episode of The Venezuela Briefing Geoff Ramsey interviews Venezuelan LGBTIQ+ activist and researcher Quiteria Franco, General Coordinator of Unión Afirmativa. They discuss the status of LGBTI rights in Venezuela, which is far behind much of the rest the Americas on issues like marriage equality, adoption rights for same-sex couples, and protections for transgender people. Despite these obstacles, Franco explains how committed activists in the LGBTI community are working for change.
