John,
At long last, Congress is on the cusp of giving Medicare the power to negotiate lower prices on prescription drugs.
Along with giving Medicare negotiating power, the legislation will penalize drug companies that raise prices faster than the rate of inflation. And it will ensure that no one on Medicare pays more than $2,000 a year for prescription drugs.
How do we know that this is a good bill? Because Big Pharma hates it. The PhRMA lobby group slammed the bill, calling it a “price-setting scheme”. That’s code for Pharma no longer being allowed to price gouge patients to the point of bankruptcy and death.
Not surprisingly, Pharma is spending massive amounts of money to try and torpedo the bill at the eleventh hour—and we need to fight back with everything we’ve got.
Social Security Works is fighting to finally give Medicare the power to negotiate lower drug prices. Chip in $5 to help us counteract Big Pharma’s onslaught and lower prescription drug prices for millions of Americans!
Passing Medicare negotiation into law will help lower drug prices for all Americans—not just those on Medicare.
Older Americans—both those who are currently on Medicare and those who are still a few years away from becoming eligible—will be among the biggest beneficiaries of Medicare negotiation. That’s because seniors spend most of their incomes on health care costs, including prescription drugs.
Passing Medicare negotiation into law will let seniors keep more of their hard earned Social Security checks instead of handing them over to greedy Big Pharma corporations.
This legislation will make a huge difference in the lives of millions of Americans. Working class families will no longer face sticker shock every year due to Pharma companies raising drug prices far faster than the rate of inflation. Seniors with chronic illnesses will no longer have to spend over $10,000 a year on the medications they need to survive.
Congressional Democrats are unified in support of Medicare negotiation. But Big Pharma corporations are desperately trying to flip just one Senator or a few House members so that they can keep price gouging us to death.
We need to redouble our pressure and remind members of Congress that they work for the American people—not Big Pharma. Donate $5 to Social Security Works today to power the fight to lower prescription drug prices!
In solidarity,
Alex Lawson Social Security Works
