Last week, Senator Joe Manchin said will not support a climate deal after
months of negotiations with Senate leadership, instead standing with Big Oil and Republicans. It leaves the deal one vote short of climate action in the Senate.
Friend -- things are moving quickly. Temperatures are spiking in the U.S. and around the world. Texas and Oklahoma hit 115 degrees this week. President Biden spoke earlier this week, calling the climate crisis a "clear and present danger."
He vowed to respond.
We need to hold him to that promise. The action that Biden takes -- and how far he goes -- will depend on the pressure he gets from the environmental movement right now.
As the administration considers new environmental rules, they're taking public feedback into consideration. They need to be hearing
overwhelmingly from the environmental movement -- and that's going to take a major effort.
To keep this campaign going, a group of committed LCV donors have agreed to triple match every contribution right now.
We're calling on a response from every LCV member right now. Please, claim your LCV membership — all it takes is a gift of $5 or more.
This is big, Friend. We're demanding that the Biden admin take swift and bold action on climate right now, including:
- Sticking to their no-leasing pledge and stopping any new oil and gas drilling leases on public lands and waters
- Requiring carbon capture from power plants and other major emitters of climate pollution
- Placing strict limits on air pollution to safeguard all communities
- Strengthening standards for cleaner cars and trucks
- Protecting communities from hazardous and super-polluting methane
- Conserving our public lands and waters
- Declaring a climate emergency — and so much more.
We have a real shot at winning each and every one of these fights. But the truth is, how far we can go depends on the resources we have -- and
that depends on contributions from members. Here's where our Membership Drive stands now:
