It has been a busy summer in Washington, and I am pleased to report that under our strong Democratic leadership, the House has been able to accomplish a lot over the last few months.

We all can agree that something must be done about the tragic epidemic of gun violence our nation is facing.  I was proud to support the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, recently signed into law by President Biden, that included measures from my Extreme Risk Protection Order Act which will help states set up and strengthen red flag laws to keep guns out of the hands of individuals who are at risk of harming themselves or others.  This bill is an important first step on our path to ending gun violence and enacting the commonsense gun safety legislation our country desperately needs.

I am also committed to fighting for and protecting women’s reproductive rights, now more than ever in light of the Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.   I recently voted to pass two bills, the Women’s Health Protection Act, which restores the fundamental right to reproductive health care for everyone,  and the Ensuring Women's Right to Reproductive Freedom Act , which  guarantees the right to travel for reproductive care so people nationwide can find safe harbor in states without prosecution.

As we know, the recent ruling against Roe can quickly become a slippery slope for many of our other fundamental rights, and I am proactively doing everything I can to ensure those rights are protected.  I was proud to co-sponsor and vote for the Respect for Marriage Act to enshrine marriage equality for same sex and interracial couples, repeal the discriminatory Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), and provide additional legal protections for marriage equality. Marriage equality is a fundamental right and we must do all we can to prevent far-right justices from taking it away.

Finally, I would be remiss not to mention the issue currently on the minds of millions of Americans right now: inflation. I was proud to help pass the Lower Food And Fuel Costs Act, a package of bipartisan bills to lower prices for America’s families in the grocery aisle and at the gas pump, and will continue the fight for fair wages and better paying jobs.

The House has been able to accomplish a lot, and will continue to work on legislation to improve lives throughout our country.  But as you know, the midterm elections are just over three months away, and Democrats run the real risk of losing the House majority if we don’t act now.  We can’t take any seat for granted, including mine, and I hope I can count on you to visit [link removed] and chip in today to help fund my campaign.

Thank you for taking the time to read about some of our recent accomplishments, and for chipping in to help me continue our work.  I appreciate your support and look forward to staying in touch as we continue to find solutions to our nation’s challenges.

Sincerely,

Salud Carbajal
