JOHN —
Back in 2018, I was so proud to have a part in crafting and passing the landmark gun control law here in Florida that banned weapons sales to those younger than 21, imposed a three-day waiting period, and created a “red flag” law.
But now, it’s 2022, and I know that more still needs to be done to address gun violence. I also know we can’t keep trying the same failed ideas.
That’s why last month, I laid out a 3-point plan to reduce gun violence and prioritize public safety, and have called for a Special Session in order to get it done.
Here’s what my three-point plan is all about:
✅ Before someone can purchase a gun, an assessment needs to be done to determine their mental health status. This assessment would be forwarded to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
✅ Two people who know the purchaser will need to fill out a form attesting to the character of the person trying to purchase a gun.
✅ Anyone wishing to purchase a gun would be required to take an anger management or impulse control class.
While I know that the fight to reduce gun violence is a big undertaking, I believe my three-point plan is an important first step in starting the conversation and can be both a point of agreement for all sides and a springboard for further action and reforms.
JOHN, this is the kind of commonsense, solution-oriented mindset that the Democrat that replaces Val Demings in Congress needs to have. I’ve always been ready with solutions to key issues, and have a track record of delivering for our community — now, I’m ready to take those solutions to Congress.
In Congress, I’ll lead the fight for gun reform, voting rights, and justice for every American. I’ll fight for a world where we don't fear for our kids' safety, one where we have good paying jobs, better schools, affordable health care, and housing equity for every American.
I hope I can count on your support in my endeavor to serve you as the Congressman for Florida’s 10th District!
Thanks,
Randolph Bracy
