NCRC’s Field Empowerment Fund For Nonprofits And CDFIs Opens Final Round Of Grant Applications
Applications are open for NCRC's Field Empowerment Fund (FEF), a $5 million grant-making program funded by Morgan Stanley to drive racial equity work. All applications are to be submitted online no later than 11:59 pm ET on July 29, 2022. [Read more and apply ([link removed]) ]

Proposed CRA Rule Receives Mixed Reviews from Housers
The National Housing Conference, National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), and other groups are preparing detailed suggestions for further improvements. Advocates say they fear that without critical changes, including explicit references to race and stronger requirements for the small banks that serve rural areas, financial institutions will continue their historic avoidance or neglect of struggling majority-minority communities. BMO, Community Groups Square Off at Merger Hearing

Jesse Van Tol, CEO of the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), warned the merger may amp up concentration in the banking sphere. “The largest banks in the country were built one acquisition at a time through combinations just like this one,” he said, according to the Financial Post. The Economic Cost Of Racial inequality

“The economic cost of racial inequality is borne not just by the individuals directly faced with limited opportunities, but also has spillovers to the entire U.S. economy,” wrote Ben Harris, Treasury’s assistant secretary for economic policy, and Janis Bowdler, Treasury counselor for racial equity. “Especially as the country becomes more racially diverse, inequality poses an ongoing threat to our individual and collective economic welfare.”[Read more ([link removed]) ]

The Value of The Federal Minimum Wage Is At Its Lowest Point in 66 years

The value of the federal minimum wage has reached its lowest point in 66 years, according to an EPI analysis of recently released Consumer Price Index (CPI) data. Accounting for price increases in June, the current federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour is now worth less than at any point since February 1956.[Read more ([link removed]) ]
