With their gorgeous striped coats and a mesmerizing gaze, tigers are among the world’s most revered wildlife. Though powerful, tigers are facing a fragile future. Over the Moon for the
“Earth Pig”

From her flat, ever-busy snout to the tip of her cone-shaped tail, the new aardvark cub at the San Diego Zoo is end-to-end cute! Born May 10, 2022 to parents Zola and Azaan, the active little female is doing well, trotting about, and already using her sharp claws to dig—all under the watchful eye of her attentive mother. Native to sub-Saharan Africa, the aardvark belongs to the same group of mammals as the African elephant. The name aardvark is derived from Afrikaans, and is literally translated to mean “earth pig.” Zola and her as-yet-unnamed daughter are currently bonding off habitat, but guests may catch a glimpse during an ambassador presentation at the Africa Rocks stage.
