This term, the stolen Supreme Court turned some of our worst fears into a terrifying new reality. Six unelected, right-wing judges rolled back some of the most significant civil rights gains of the last century — and there’s no end in sight unless we expand and rebalance the Court.

That’s why this week, I joined nine congressional champions of Court expansion and a coalition of advocacy organizations from every part of the progressive movement to renew the call to pass the Judiciary Act and add 4 seats to the Supreme Court.


I went to Washington because our mission is urgent. The consequences of the right-wing Court’s decisions this term should be a wake-up call for every Democrat in Congress. Will you chip in to help us keep the pressure on our elected leaders to enact the only solution that truly meets this moment?

The Court’s public approval continues to nosedive as it shows itself to be a willing accomplice to the Republican party’s war against women, people of color and the LGBTQ community; against clean air and water and safe schools and workers’ rights; against voting and democracy; against America itself.

The American people will not stand for an illegitimate Court playing the leading role in an authoritarian far-right movement’s attempts to dismantle our democracy so they can govern via minority rule.

Thanks to leaders like Senator Ed Markey and Representatives Hank Johnson, Mondaire Jones, Rashida Tlaib, Bonnie Watson Coleman, Jan Schakowsky, Andy Levin, Mark Takano, and Sheila Jackson Lee who joined me this week, we have a bill in Congress that would expand the Court and rein in these right-wing justices. And every day, a growing number of Americans are amping up the pressure on our other elected representatives to follow their lead.

We’ve come so far since I joined this fight with Take Back the Court last year: Together we’ve helped recruit more than 130 advocacy organizations and 60+ congressional cosponsors to support expansion — and this list will only continue to grow as the Court issues rulings that undermine our rights and democracy.
