Welcome to Friday, July 22nd, palm trees and hammocks...
The House passed a bill that would guarantee a federal right for individuals to obtain and use contraceptives.
The bill passed in a 228-195 vote mainly along party lines, with all but eight Republicans in opposition. The bill will move on to the Senate, but similar to the marriage equality bill, at least 10 Republicans will have to support it to move past a filibuster.
The constitutional right to contraception is currently protected by the Supreme Court’s ruling in Griswold v. Connecticut (1965). The Right to Contraception Act also affirms the right of healthcare providers to provide contraceptives and information related to contraception.
Tell your representatives in the Senate how you want them to vote.
