Dear John,

The U.S. may be withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, but you wouldn’t know it based on the support and enthusiasm for climate action coming from Corporate America and U.S. labor leaders.

Right now, more than 25,000 people from 200+ countries are gathered in Madrid, Spain for the international climate talks known as COP25. And Ceres is right there with them, amplifying the call to action from investors and companies, and letting the world know that “We Are Still In!” despite the Trump Administration’s decision to leave this landmark climate agreement.

Last week, CEOs of 75 companies who collectively employ more than 2 million people and the AFL-CIO, which represents more than 12.5 million U.S. workers, published a joint statement in the Wall Street Journal urging the United States Federal Government to stay in the Paris Agreement. These CEOs are not alone: more than 3,800 American businesses, states, cities, representing nearly 70% of the country’s gross domestic product, are committed to the promise of the Paris Agreement.

And earlier today, more than 630 institutional investors managing more than $37 trillion in assets urged governments to phase out thermal coal power worldwide, put a price on carbon, end government subsidies for fossil fuels, and update and strengthen nationally-determined contributions. The Global Investor Statement to Governments on Climate Change, developed by the seven Founding Partners of The Investor Agenda, including Ceres, urges governments to step up action to tackle address the global climate crisis change and achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Together, investors and corporations are joining cities, states, tribes and thousands of other Americans, who stand united to keep the United States committed to the Paris Agreement.

Join us in helping protect a better future for the country’s workers, communities and the economy.
Thank you,

Anne Kelly
