John --

There’s a lot going on in Washington these days. So I wanted to make sure and share this legislative update. It’s one you’ll never catch on CNN or Fox, but it’s pretty important — especially if you’re concerned about the future of our planet.

Late last month, a clean energy bill that I introduced -- The Public Land and Renewable Energy Development Act -- passed through the Natural Resources Committee with bipartisan support and is now headed to the House floor for a full vote.

This bill is big. It opens up public lands to begin substantially developing solar, wind, and geothermal energy production in this country. It’s an important step in our shared fight to reduce carbon emissions and move toward a renewable energy economy. I am proud to have played a role in getting through committee.

At town halls across the district, I’m often asked:

“What’s the most impactful thing we can do to address climate change?” Is it reducing carbon emissions in vehicles? Is it building more energy efficient buildings? Is it developing new innovations in farming?

The answer is yes... to everything. We need to do it all and we need to do it now, and it’s up to Congress to come together before it's too late. What’s so important about this bill is that it will be the most ambitious and bipartisan clean energy legislation to come out of this Congress. That's a good sign.

So no, you won’t hear much about our bipartisan progress in this hyper-partisan climate. But it gives me hope that Democrats and Republicans can still come together to save our planet.

Thanks,

Mike
