News from the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation News from the Alzheimer's Research and Prevention Foundation July 2022 President's Message New Alzheimer's Drug Approval Slammed by Scientists Dear John, I’d like to share an important update on the Alzheimer’s drug, Aducanumab, marketed as Aduhelm in the US. As stated in a recent paper published by the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease, due to significant concerns for the dementia field and drug approval process, considering its lack of adequate evidence for clinical efficacy, safety issues, and cost, the FDA Peripheral and Central Nervous System Drugs Advisory Committee voted nearly unanimously not to recommend the approval of Aduhelm for the treatment of early AD. It’s not even clear that amyloid is a cause of Alzheimer’s. It may just be a coincidental finding. New SAC Member Dr. Fayron Epps Dr. Fayron Epps is the Principal Investigator of the Faith Village Research Lab and an Assistant Professor at Emory University, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing. Dr. Epps has been a nurse for over 20 years and served in many clinical and leadership roles in the hospital setting. She received her BSN from Tuskegee University, MSN in Health Care Systems Management from Loyola University New Orleans, and a PhD in Nursing from Southern University and A & M College. Read More. Donor Spotlight Silver Fox Classic Golf Outing The Annual Silver Fox Classic Golf Outing returned this past June. One hundred and sixteen golfers came to play in honor of Ron S., who passed from Alzheimer’s in 2017. "It is a day that his memory and legacy are lifted up for his friends and family to remember. And I think I speak for all who participated… it feels good to assist in ARPF’s continued efforts to prevent and combat these challenging disorders,” Ron's son, Todd explained. Read More.
