Brian Kemp’s strict abortion ban just went into effect here in Georiga. This bill strips a pregnant person’s right to make their own personal health care decisions as early as six weeks after conception, much sooner than many people even know they are pregnant.
Kemp’s legacy will forever be stained by this moment. He is once again disregarding the health, safety, and wellbeing of low income, Black, brown, LGBTQ+ and rural Georgians.
Instead of focusing on the state’s growing health care crises—including one of the country's worst Black maternal mortality rates, extreme doctor and nurse shortages, hospital closures across the state, and the half a million Georgians who lack access to basic health care because of his refusal to expand Medicaid — Kemp chooses time and again to pander to his extremist, anti-majoritarian base.
Make no mistake: he did not work to protect us upon entering office, and he does not have a plan to start now.
The past several weeks have reminded us that we cannot rely on the courts to protect our most fundamental freedoms, and we cannot count on the far-right Kemp administration to protect our communities. We can and must fight back by casting our ballots, making our voices heard, and supporting grassroots organizations that are working tirelessly to ensure that people seeking an abortion can access the care they need.
In response to this ban, can you split a donation today between three reproductive rights organizations — the Feminist Women's Health Center, the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective, and ARC Southeast?
