# [#] 87 years — that's how long it has been since the Social Security Act became law, but Congress hasn't done the work to protect and expand one of the county’s most popular programs in decades . In fact, GOP leaders, like Mitch McConnell and Rick Scott, are actively planning to cut Social Security completely in the next 5 years.
It is Congress' responsibility to safeguard Social Security for all Americans, enhance benefits and eligibility and ensure those benefits keep up with inflation — but the Senate GOP continues to block our ability to do so.
Unlike my Republican counterparts, I believe that no hardworking American should retire into poverty, and I fight every day to better our social security system.
Will you help me reach my goal of raising $8,700 by August 14th so I can continue to fight for this sacred trust between the American government and its people? [[link removed]]

Nearly 70 million Americans rely on Social Security monthly . It is a lifeline for Americans on fixed incomes such as widows and the elderly — this is why I'm committed to protecting and expanding the program that you pay for in each and every paycheck .
If you can, donate $8.70 — in honor of its 87 years of success — to help us safeguard Social Security for years to come for the millions of Americans who rely on it: [[link removed]]
