The far-right Supreme Court majority has made their priorities clear: Destroy fundamental rights, target our freedoms, and reverse decades worth of progress in our nation.

We can’t depend on Obergefell v. Hodges, the case that established marriage equality across the nation, to stay intact with our current uber-conservative majority. In fact, Justice Clarence Thomas wasted no time after Roe was overturned to call for the historic ruling to be “reconsidered.”

That’s why House Democrats acted quickly to pass legislation that protects the right for same-sex and interracial marriages at the federal level. Now, the Respect for Marriage Act is headed to the Senate where its chances of becoming law will be even more challenging.
