Folks  We’re facing record heat waves around the world with deadly consequences. Yet some corporate media news outlets are trying to downplay the seriousness of the situation – and the fact the climate crisis is clearly to blame.

Watch this unbelievable real-life Don’t Look Up moment that happened on a recent broadcast by GBN in the UK, where temperatures were so extreme it forced an airport to shut down because the runway melted.

GBN anchor Bev Turner interrupted meteorologist John Hammond as he warned about the potentially lethal heat wave about to hit the UK.

Turner complained, “I want us to be happy about the weather.” She went on to ask “Haven’t we always had hot weather…John?”

Hammond replied bluntly: “Uh, no.”

(You can watch the entire interview here on the GBN YouTube channel here.)

Hammond went on to explain that the 1976 heat wave was a one-time "freak event" that occurred more than 40 years ago predominantly in Europe. By contrast, the current outbreak of extreme weather is worldwide.

Graphic depicting a comparison of global temperatures between 1976 and 2022. The top map for 1976 shows hot spots in Europe, northwest Russia, and parts of North America. The bottom map for 2022 shows nearly the entire globe covered in extreme temperatures. The caption reads:

This wave of extreme temperatures is impacting every part of life, in every part of the globe. As The Guardian recently reported, “the worst effects of the climate emergency cannot be avoided if emissions continue to rise.”

A screenshot of a tweet from The Telegraph, which reads: “New: Cars burst into flames and runway melts as England nears 43 C record”. Accompanying the tweet is a link to an article from The Telegraph, with a preview that says: “A car has burst into flames and the runway at RAF Brize Norton has “melted” as Britain basks in record-breaking temperatures.” There is a photo showing the map of the UK and northern Europe in red and orange with extreme temperatures indicated across the board.

I am the ONLY candidate on the ballot for Washington’s 2nd district who accepts the findings of climate scientists that we MUST halt emissions, and the only candidate committed to the scale of action necessary to stop the climate emergency.

My opponent, a former lobbyist turned career politician and awash in fossil fuel PAC money, staunchly opposes the Green New Deal. I support it.

Rick Larsen’s idea of meaningful climate policy is proposing a handful of electric buses for the district.

We need bold, visionary thinking and a mass mobilization of the federal government to get off of fossil fuels and STOP future emissions.

I’ve been an activist and organizer for 30 years. I’ve organized and participated in countless climate actions fighting for this change. As a constituent living in this district that is particularly vulnerable to climate change, I have asked Rick Larsen, my congressman of 22 years, to take the climate crisis seriously.

He refused to listen. And now we’re out of time. So I’m running against him.

Our bold, actually progressive, actually grassroots campaign is endorsed by Friends of the Earth, American Youth for Climate Action, the Washington Democrats Environment and Climate Caucus, and Future Generations – just to name a few.

We fully expect to win a spot in August’s Top Two primary, which means this Fall the voters of this district can have a real choice between two Democrats and decide for themselves which candidate is fighting for a liveable planet.

Unlike Rick, I don’t take a dime from fossil fuel executives or any corporate PAC. I proudly signed the No Fossil Fuel Money pledge in 2020, and again this year. And when I serve in Congress I will NEVER cave to climate annihilators like ExxonMobil.

I’m counting on grassroots power to take our fight all the way to Congress, where I will fight for millions of good paying jobs through the Green New Deal to stop the climate crisis. Can you pitch in $22 today to make sure we make it onto the November ballot?

In 2020 my team came within 1% of winning this primary.

This year, our campaign is firing on all cylinders. We’ve raised more than ALL of Rick Larsen’s challengers combined, and we’ve knocked well over twice as many doors as the incumbent.

We’re on the path to victory. Join us now, and let’s bring it home.

Solidarity,

Jason Call
