[ [link removed] ]Welch for Vermont
Hello,
At the end of its term, the Supreme Court issued their ruling in West
Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which essentially guts
the authority of the EPA to mandate carbon emissions reductions.
Here’s why that’s a big deal: The EPA’s ability to force electricity
generators to shift to cleaner options is a key tool for the federal
government to keep our environment safe and to reduce carbon pollution.
Once again, the conservative Supreme Court has dealt a blow to the
critical work of our government, the health of all Americans, and the
safety of our planet for future generations.
I refuse to let this ruling deter us in our fight to address the climate
crisis. Congress must take action—now. [ [link removed] ]So I’m asking: Will you chip in $5 or anything
you can to build a movement for a Green New Deal and urgent climate
action?
[ [link removed] ]CHIP IN
Every American—no matter who they voted for—has benefited from the EPA’s
work to ensure clean air, safe drinking water, and a sustainable planet.
Make no mistake: the Court hasn’t simply ruled against the EPA. They’ve
ruled in favor of corporate polluters over the public good.
The Court is putting Americans in danger. It’s outrageous. It’s
disappointing. But it’s also unsurprising.
The Supreme Court is no longer a non-partisan arbiter. It has been carved
into an intensely conservative body, working on behalf of an extreme
right-wing agenda, against the will of the American people. This decision
makes it that much clearer that we need urgent action by states, and by
Congress, to protect Americans’ basic rights—including the right to a
livable planet.
[ [link removed] ]A
contribution from you today would send a powerful message
that we’re nowhere near done fighting. Please chip in to help fight
corporate polluters and pass a Green New Deal.
There’s no doubt about it: if we continue on this path, marginalized
communities will suffer the most damage. A Green New Deal will reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and help us avoid the worst consequences of
climate change while also tackling economic inequality and racial
injustice. That’s why I was proud to be an original cosponsor of the Green
New Deal alongside Senator Bernie Sanders and Representative Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez.
I’ve brought members of Congress together to deliver results before—even
against powerful interests like fossil fuel corporations. From leading
climate and green energy legislation in the House, to joining climate
marches with environmental leaders, climate action has been a cause near
and dear to me for decades. And I don’t intend to slow down as senator:
I’ll continue working towards a more just and sustainable future that
advances clean energy, while creating good-paying and equitable green
jobs.
We can still create a future where future generations
thrive. But only if we
work together.
[ [link removed] ]Chip in anything you can to help us build a movement for a Green New
Deal and meaningful climate action that can stand up to even the highest
court in the land.
Thanks for making this possible,
Peter
