Dear Friend,
Last Friday, Congressman Jared Huffman—founding member and Co-Chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus—sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, calling his attention to how atheists, and ex-Muslims in particular, have been targeted and silenced on his company's platform.
This bipartisan letter was signed by three additional Members of Congress: Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Jamie Raskin (D-MD), and Susan Wild (D-PA).
A critical part of the Secular Coalition for America's mission is to give voice to and advocate on behalf of our 19 national member organizations.
For the organizations that have lobbyists and legal teams, we convene them, harnessing our collective strength and expertise to make a greater impact on Capitol Hill. Most of our members, however, do not have lobbyists and lawyers on staff. That's where we come in, and a critical way that contributions to the Secular Coalition for America make our movement stronger as a whole.
In this case, one of our members and partners, Ex-Muslims of North America, brought an issue to our attention that was impacting the individuals they serve in a serious way: Ex-Muslim Facebook groups, and atheist groups generally, are being shut down by extremists who are abusing Facebook's reporting tools.
