Congressman Huffman sends bipartisan letter to Mark Zuckerberg dema

[link removed][UNIQID]

Dear Friend,

Last Friday, Congressman Jared Huffman—founding member and Co-Chair of the Congressional Freethought Caucus—sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook ([link removed][UNIQID]) , calling his attention to how atheists, and ex-Muslims in particular, have been targeted and silenced on his company's platform.

This bipartisan letter was signed by three additional Members of Congress: Reps. Paul Gosar (R-AZ), Jamie Raskin (D-MD), and Susan Wild (D-PA).

A critical part of the Secular Coalition for America's mission is to give voice to and advocate on behalf of our 19 national member organizations.

For the organizations that have lobbyists and legal teams, we convene them, harnessing our collective strength and expertise to make a greater impact on Capitol Hill. Most of our members, however, do not have lobbyists and lawyers on staff. That's where we come in, and a critical way that contributions to the Secular Coalition for America make our movement stronger as a whole.

In this case, one of our members and partners, Ex-Muslims of North America ([link removed][UNIQID]) , brought an issue to our attention that was impacting the individuals they serve in a serious way: Ex-Muslim Facebook groups, and atheist groups generally, are being shut down by extremists who are abusing Facebook's reporting tools.

We took action, teaming up with our friends at Center for Inquiry ([link removed][UNIQID]) to educate Members of Congress, including the Congressional Freethought Caucus, about the issue and urge them to take action. As a result of our efforts and Congressman Huffman's leadership, Facebook is now on notice.

We will continue to pressure Facebook to take action ensuring that nonbelievers, religious minorities, and political dissidents are protected and can freely and safely express themselves and build communities on Facebook's platform.

This work is made possible by your support. If you haven't already, please consider giving a year-end gift to the Secular Coalition for America or becoming a monthly donor to sustain our work year-round. ([link removed][UNIQID]) We will never stop fighting for you and for the member organizations who make our coalition and our movement stronger every day.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment.

Sincerely,
Sarah Levin
