Adam Schiff for Congress

John,

The NRA is terrified that my legislation holding gun manufacturers and gun dealers liable for the negligent deaths they cause is about to pass in the House — so they are going full tilt to smear me and undermine our efforts:

“U.S. House Sets its Sights on Destroying the American Firearms Industry”
— NRA Institute for Legislative Action, 7/20/22

If you’re ready to help my campaign push back forcefully against the NRA’s attacks and get my bill passed, chip in now. If you want to hear more first, please read on. This is important.

President Biden has called my legislation to repeal the gun industry’s legal immunity from civil lawsuits his greatest priority in tackling gun violence. And there’s good reason.

The NRA and gun manufacturers have repeatedly proven that they don’t care about wanton violence or senseless gun deaths. To them, it’s all about their bottom line — dollars and cents from more gun sales, more fear-mongering, and more assault weapons on the street. It lines their pockets.

So I’m excited to share with you today that last night, the House Judiciary Committee passed my bill, the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, through the committee. It could come to the House floor as early as next week. Not a single Republican voted for it.

Let me tell you why that matters:

Since 2005, the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, or PLCAA for short, has given the multibillion-dollar gun industry a legal immunity that no other industry enjoys.

That means that survivors of gun violence and victims’ families have had no legal recourse for the bloodshed our country has experienced with everyday gun violence and mass shootings for almost two decades. The gun industry can act with negligent disregard for the public safety and there is no holding them accountable.

Consequently, the gun industry has had no incentive to stem the flow of firearms into the wrong hands. Even if they end up killing children in a school.

My legislation would repeal PLCAA, remove the gun industry’s legal immunity, and open them up to civil suits to hold them accountable for their negligence and the harm they have caused to tens of thousands of people and families.

That’s exactly why the NRA is coming after me with their full force — they even said “the mere fact that such extreme legislation is even being considered shows how far current House leadership would like to go in its war on the Second Amendment.”

We need to respond and keep pushing for the changes our country desperately needs, but we need to keep our House majority past November to do it.

Please, John, rush a donation today to help us respond to the NRA’s attacks and hold the gun industry accountable with my legislation. We’ve got them on their heels and need to keep pushing.

Thanks for everything you’re doing to keep our country moving forward.
