Esrlier this year I was named as one of just two in the 120-member Florida Legislature as the 2022 Champion of Business!

That came in addition to being the FIRST Democrat in over 20+ years to receive the Guardian of Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Business, the small business chamber of commerce.

Why? Because I put the politics aside to fight for our local small businesses, and I won! When the Republicans attacked "big tech" they also caught Florida's small businesses in their trap. I fought against a bill that would have hamstrung all of our small businesses with needless red-tape and new lawsuits. I ultimately prevailed, staving off what was an estimated $80 billion fiscal impact to our business community. Sometimes, it's not just the bills that pass that define success, but also the bad ones I successfully kill.

Locally, we saved 3,450 local small businesses with Paycheck Protection Program loans saving a reported 33,826 local jobs. I stood up as the most business-friendly member of the legislature to keep the businesses on Bloomingdale alive during the pandemic and thriving during the recovery.

It came naturally, as a small business owner myself of a small tutoring franchise, I know how hard it was to be locked down, how we banded together to survive, and how we've all worked to recreate the jobs lost to get our local economy humming again.

Seeing the rising prices coming, I ran a bill to suspend the gas tax and save Floridians at the pump. I was also the FIRST member of the House to call for a Special Session on Homeowners Insurance which ultimately led to a reform package that is already cracking down on roofing scammers who have caused rates to skyrocket (if you can even get insurance at all).

Now, I’m in a fight against the very people making money off of your higher rates. It’s the same folks who were against me last time, the good-ole-boy networks who have held Brandon back for over 30 years. You can help me continue this fight via one of the links below.

We must win so they can’t take us backward. We fight forward, together!
