Dear John,
For decades, the maritime provinces have lagged the rest of Canada in business investment, and in turn, have suffered sub-par economic growth and lower living standards.
A new study published by the Fraser Institute today finds that from at least 1990 to 2020, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island have all suffered below-average business investment.
Consider the growth in business investment (excluding residential construction) compared to the national average from 1990 to 2018:
-
Nova Scotia - 70.9% less.
-
New Brunswick - 46.0% less.
-
Alberta - 69.3% more.
Dig into the numbers further by checking out the full study here.
Sincerely,
Niels Veldhuis
