The Supreme Court's recent attacks on the right to reproductive freedom have set a dangerous precedent for other fundamental rights and freedoms. Justice Clarence Thomas's opinion urged the Supreme Court to "reconsider" gay marriage next.

We cannot count on the Supreme Court to defend important precedents and protect our rights. That's why we’re taking action.

As Co-Chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus and New Hampshire’s first openly gay member of Congress, I helped introduce the Respect for Marriage Act in the House. Earlier this week, the House passed our legislation on a bipartisan vote!

Even if the Supreme Court were to reverse the precedent of the United States v. Windsor and Obergefell v. Hodges, this critical legislation would enshrine marriage equality in federal law.

By repealing unconstitutional and discriminatory laws, providing additional legal protections from individuals seeking to undermine marriage equality, and enshrining marriage equality in federal law, we can solidify our basic freedoms to be ourselves, love who we want to love, and marry who we choose.
