John – You wouldn’t know it from the constant headlines attacking her, but Rashida Tlaib is one of the most determined progressive fighters we have in Congress.
Rashida is fighting to protect whistleblowers. In a recent amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act, Rashida pushed for protections that would allow whistleblowers charged in leak cases to defend themselves by arguing that their disclosures to the media were in the public interest – something the current law prohibits.
Rashida is fighting for workers’ rights. She consistently shows up for striking workers and has been pressuring the Senate to abolish the filibuster and pass the PRO Act (among other bills). As she told striking Keurig workers last year: “You all deserve to be able to provide for your family. You shouldn’t have to beg them to do the right thing.”
Rashida is fighting for clean water. Last year, as vaccines were still in the early stages of roll-out and cases were surging again, city officials in Detroit and around the nation were shutting off water in poor neighborhoods. Rashida pressured the Biden administration to build funds into COVID relief to keep safe, clean water accessible to all, and halt water utility shutoffs.
Rashida is fighting for our future. A fierce advocate for climate action, Rashida has championed the Green New Deal for Cities introduced by her sister legislators, BNC’s AOC and Cori Bush. And in the recent House Appropriations bill, she secured funding for dozens of key projects that support impoverished communities in Detroit.
There’s no question, Rashida unapologetically fights for working people. But right now corporate-funded PACs are lining up to stop her from being reelected.
