Our economy and our families’ health rely on clean water. For too long, polluters have used their money and influence to weaken protections for our Great Lakes and waterways, with dangerous consequences. Just last month, we saw two significant toxic spills with thousands of gallons spilled into the Flint River and the St. Marys River. These spills make the rivers unsafe for humans and bring deadly consequences for the many animals and plants that call the river home.
That’s why I’ve sponsored or co-sponsored bills to require corporations - not taxpayers like you - to pay if they pollute, and to increase penalties for oil spills in the Great Lakes.
