For the 6th time

Another Unconstitutional Map
****************************

This week the Ohio Supreme Court ruled that the gerrymandered map submitted by Ohio's Republican-dominated Redistricting Committee violates our state Constitution.

Again.

This is the sixth time that the Ohio Supreme Court has told the Redistricting Committee that their maps are unconstitutional gerrymanders.

And six separate times the Redistricting Committee has thumbed their nose at the rule of law, and turned their backs on Ohio voters.

Because they refuse to follow the law (and the orders of the Ohio Supreme Court), Ohio voters are having to vote for candidates in unconstitutional gerrymandered districts.

In May, the congressional primary used an unconstitutional gerrymandered map.

Our upcoming August primary will use an unconstitutional gerrymandered map for state legislature.

And our November general election will use unconstitutional gerrymandered maps.

We'll continue the fight over redistricting and push hard for constitutional maps that reflect the will of the people (and our state constitution) in 2024.

But we the people of Ohio need to hold these lawbreaking Republican officials accountable – just like any other Ohioans would be held accountable for breaking the law six times.

I'm thinking a lot about that these days, and I'll bet you are too. And right now, with elections around the corner, running and supporting candidates in every district is perhaps the most important thing we can do to hold these lawbreakers accountable.

Why? Because one of the main reasons they so desperately push through unconstitutional gerrymanders is to avoid a contest and the accountability it brings. When we run and fund Democratic nominees in those gerrymandered districts anyway, we thwart their plan.

That's as satisfying as it is effective.

But doing that requires a group effort. That's where our Blue Ohio ( [link removed] ) community comes in. We're over 700 people who together make sure our Democratic nominees for state legislature have resources to fight fiercely, regardless of the district they're in.

It's crowdfunding for democracy – and accountability. We have monthly virtual “brown bag” lunches, which have been described as "[bleep]ing great," "inspiring," "motivating," and "awesome." (Members at $10/month or more are automatically invited to our live events; all members have access to the recordings.) During those lunches we get together, hear from Democratic candidates, talk about what’s going on in the statehouse – and amplify things that we can all do to pitch in.

And one hundred percent of the funds donated to the nominees go to the nominees. Our Blue Ohio community grows and sustains itself based on optional tips.

Join me (and over 700 of your fellow Ohioans) in supporting our Democratic state legislative nominees, and creating the community that will finally hold these Republicans accountable.

Onward,
